We’ve been seeing significant evolution in the talent acquisition (TA) function for some years now as companies continue to refine how they attract, recruit, select, and onboard talent in a competitive market. But even we were surprised by how strongly the latest Bersin™, Deloitte Consulting LLP research on high-impact talent acquisition confirms TA’s advancement since our last study in 2014. We now have data tying TA maturity not only to advancements in how well the TA function fulfills its purpose, but also to business, financial, and workforce outcomes.

By 2025, millennials (those born between 1982 and 2003) will make up 75 percent of the global workforce, and a significant portion will begin to assume managerial and leadership positions. Their values, expectations, and demands will continue to shape the future workplace. They are likely to cause change within an organization as well as crave to be part of it. As millennials’ dominance in the workforce grows, their voices, needs, and opinions have started to shape the way organizations manage change.

Addressing 2015’s No. 1 business challenge: How are you keeping employees engaged and on board?

Culture and engagement issues rose sharply in prominence to become the No. 1 challenge identified in the Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends 2015 report. Nearly nine out of 10 (87 percent) of the 3,300+ business and HR leaders surveyed consider culture and engagement issues to be “important; 50 percent say they’re “very important” — double the results in 2014. While two-thirds (66 percent) of HR respondents say they’re working on the problem by updating their retention and engagement strategy, the remainder (34 percent) report their strategy is outdated or nonexistent.

New Deloitte Global Human Capital Research shows that organizations today must work hard to create a meaningful, humanistic work environment to drive engagement, performance, and a magnetic attraction in the market.

And this is good business. The Great Place to Work Institute has published studies which show that the “100 best places to work” outperformed the S&P 500 by over four-fold from 1990–2009 and there’s no reason to believe this won’t continue.
