I’m here at Workday Rising 2011—filled with people who have embraced cloud-based computing and the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model for their business. A number of factors have converged to make this technology particularly attractive for HR — the ability to enable broader transformation efforts, advance HR’s strategic position as a valued business partner and raise the bar for ongoing HR service delivery. So if you haven’t yet explored the possibilities, or haven’t done so lately, now is an ideal time.
Recent Deloitte research shows that 84 percent of surveyed companies are either transforming or planning to transform how they handle human resources functions, driven primarily by the desire to save costs (85 percent) and improve effectiveness (75 percent) of their HR function. SaaS is an efficient way to accelerate that transformation and capture value faster. Choices in how you deploy SaaS and cloud technologies are increasing and SaaS and cloud solutions themselves are growing — at two or three times the pace of on-premises solutions, according to Gartner Research — and they’re often less expensive and faster to implement than large enterprise systems.
Even better, many of the factors that have made companies wary of adopting a cloud/SaaS solution are fading as the technology rapidly advances and matures. HR and IT leaders are also taking advantage of Workday’s pre-built “cloud connector” integration tools instead of having to address and develop select integrations on their own saving time during implementation and lowering their on-going IT operating overheard once live on the solution.
I’m hearing colleagues and clients all around me talk about their positive experiences with Workday / cloud solution and share their leading practices and ideas for continuing to take advantage of this powerful technology. I’m convinced more and more organizations will join them in the months ahead as they continue their journey to take HR to the next level and to the cloud.
