This Thing We Call “Passion”

Video Blog: John Hagel discusses “Unlocking the Passion of the Explorer”

What can we learn from environments that demand sustained extreme performance improvement? Our research found a common element across diverse fields: The people in those environments were extremely passionate about what they were doing — a particular kind of passion we call “The Passion of the Explorer.”

Listen as John Hagel III, , Co-chairman, Deloitte LLP Center for the Edge, explains the three characteristics of Explorers and how organizations may be inadvertently squelching this valuable passion exhibited by only 11 percent of U.S. workers. The good news: 45% of the U.S. workforce has at least one of the three Explorer elements, giving organizations (and individuals themselves) a strong opportunity to realize significant performance improvement by recognizing and cultivating Explorer potential.

As used in this document, “Deloitte” means Deloitte Consulting LLP, a subsidiary of Deloitte LLP. Please see www.deloitte.com/us/about for a detailed description of the legal structure of Deloitte LLP and its subsidiaries.
