In HR and elsewhere, we’re in thrall to Big Data – sold on the power that information and analytics can give us as we work to understand our surroundings and make critical decisions.

Big, however, is only one of the ways to measure data’s value. Fresh, original and relevant matter too. When you apply the right knowledge to a challenge, the strategies you form as a result are better. The work of designing and implementing change is easier and more effective. When all the elements align from beginning to end, HR can more easily reach its full
potential to drive bottom-line business results.

It is for precisely this reason – the comprehensive alignment of data, analytics, insight, strategy and implementation – that we have welcomed Bersin & Associates to Deloitte Consulting LLP. Effective January 3, the respected, decade-old entity many of you may have worked with already has been recast as Bersin by Deloitte.

As we move to integrate Bersin’s strengths in HR research, analytics, insight and professional alignment with Deloitte’s strengths in talent strategy and complex implementation, some of you may ask: How will this differ from what each organization already provided on its own?

The principal answer is that each of us extends the other’s reach, so the combined outcome is greater than it could have been before. As part of Deloitte, Bersin now has a much wider base of contacts from which to generate original data through surveys, interviews and case studies. Larger sample sizes can mean a greater ability to zero in on specific industries or geographies, delivering precision without sacrificing validity.

On the other side of the coin, Deloitte has a deep and broad knowledge base with which to fine-tune its strategic recommendations for companies around the world. We can all benefit from Bersin’s data and insights when the time comes to translate those strategies into palpable change.
